Two teenagers were killed in an accident on the Riverside River, another seriously injured

Two teenagers were killed and another seriously injured after a crash in Riverside on Saturday when police say a driver ran a red light.

It happened shortly before 6 a.m. near the intersection of Wood Road and Van Buren Boulevard. When the first rescuers arrived at the scene, they saw that one of the cars involved in the accident was on fire.

When the fire was extinguished, law enforcement officers found two dead people — a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl. Another 17-year-old boy, who police say was in the back seat at the time of the crash, was seriously injured. Paramedics took him to the hospital.

Officials investigating the crash said the vehicle carrying the teenagers was “traveling northbound on Wood Road at a high rate of speed” when the driver ran a red light at the intersection. The driver of the Scion was driving down Van Buren Street when his car collided with the teenagers’ car, causing their car to hit a light pole, a power pole and a tree before bursting into flames.

The driver of the Scion was not injured in the accident. Police said he is cooperating with the investigation.

Police have not identified the two teenagers who died in the crash because authorities have not notified their families. Investigators say drugs and alcohol were likely involved in the crash.
