Get out and enjoy the Friday sunshine in Portland. The weekend looks wet

Portlanders will wake up to cooler conditions on Friday, but the afternoon will see mostly sunny skies with some gusty winds on the eastern side of the Portland/Vancouver area.

The National Weather Service says easterly winds will gust to 55 mph in the western Columbia River Gorge and up to 30 mph closer to Portland’s core. Areas west of the core will likely see gusts of 15-25 mph.

Along with the wind, we’ll see a warm temperature on Friday that will likely reach 64 degrees, a few degrees above the late October average. Be sure to complete your outside tasks on Friday because the weekend will be wet.

Rain moving inland from the coast will begin Friday evening and continue until Saturday morning.

The front is expected to stall over the region, bringing wet conditions up and down the Willamette Valley. In the afternoon, the rain will change to showers. The high temperature will stay around 64 degrees despite the cloud cover. Rainfall in the Portland area could be about half an inch.

Another faster front moves in late Saturday and adds more precipitation overnight. The weather service says there will be more moisture and colder air with this system.

There will be frequent showers on Sunday morning, and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon. The maximum temperature will reach about 59 degrees.

Extended forecasts show continued rain Monday and Tuesday, with highs dropping about 10 degrees from Saturday’s high to near 55.

Early next week, snow levels will drop to Cascade Pass levels. Current accumulation estimates at elevations of 3,500-4,500 feet range from 3-8 inches.
