A man faces 6 felonies after trying to run over Harris supporters

Jason Lynch LaFond, 55, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, an angry Trump supporter, is accused of trying to run over campaigners at the Oct. 12 election and faces charges of assault and ethnic intimidation. Lafond will now have something in common with the criminal ex-president when he faces felony charges: three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon — a four-year felony — and three counts of ethnic intimidation — a two-year felony.

Lafon (allegedly!) went to the tent in the campaign parking lot, looking for campaign materials for the disgraced ex-president. He came across a tent with campaign volunteers for Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. From there, the volunteers became very sick.

Lafond allegedly yelled profanities at the group, including anti-LGBTQ slurs.

Officials say Lafond then told the agitators that when Trump wins, he will “destroy” people like them. He then returned to his car and sped towards the agitators who jumped out of the way. After that, Lafon left the scene.

“He was shooting at his car so fast that I quite rightly thought I was going to die. I thought this man was going to kill me,” said Melissa Crook, a volunteer with the St. Clair Shores Democratic Club. “I still don’t know how he was able to stop his car so fast because it’s not an electric car but he did and I’m thankful he did but I thought that was it and I’d never see my love units again.”

This alleged attack was not just an attack on the victims. This was an attack on victims’ rights to express themselves freely and safely, and it affected our entire community. There is no place for acts of violence, attacks or harassment because of someone else’s person. This threatens our democracy and the exercise of free speech during fair and secure elections,” Maycomb County District Attorney Peter J. Lucido said in a statement.

He seems cute. I’m willing to bet he’s a user of Truth Social, where there’s a lot of talk about “destroying” or imprisoning Democrats. An angry Trumper was granted a bail of 50 thousand dollars, and after his release he will have to wear a GPS device. In all my years, I have never seen the political violence that we have witnessed since Donald J. Trump became the 45th president. But here we are. We will take out the garbage on November 5.
