Festive firing during Diwali damaged a government official’s car in Panchkula

The incident came to light on Friday morning when Pawan Kapoor, chief engineer of the Punjab Water Resources Department, noticed a bullet hole in the driver’s side windshield of his white Maruti S-Cross, which was parked near his house.

Reckless celebratory firing in a residential area during Diwali celebrations damaged the car of a senior official of the Punjab Water Resources Department in Sector 11, Panchkula.

The incident came to light on Friday morning when Pawan Kapoor, chief engineer of the department, noticed a bullet hole in the driver’s side windshield of his white Maruti S-Cross, which was parked near his house. The bullet pierced the windshield and lodged in the instrument panel.

In his complaint to the Sector 10 police post, Kapoor said the shot appeared to have been fired by someone celebrating Diwali on October 31.

The policemen examined the vehicle, confirming the presence of a bullet in the instrument panel. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact source and time of the shot.

Based on the evidence, the police filed an FIR under Section 125 of the BNS and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
