“Excess” fares for private buses in Rewar; a complaint has been filed

Taking serious notice of the complaint that passengers of private buses are being charged exorbitant fares, the General Manager (Roads) at Rewari Depot has written to the District Transport Officer-Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to take necessary action in the matter. The former also asked the latter to inform his office of action in this regard.

In his complaint sent to the transport minister and local officials of the road department, Prakash Yadav, a resident of Harkara village, alleged that private buses plying on the Rewari-Dharukhera stretch, one of the busiest routes, are not only letting in extra passengers. board, but an “excess” tariff is also charged from them.

“You can even see passengers traveling on the roof of the bus, putting their safety at risk. They have to take a risk as Roadways buses are not available at the designated stands on the routes. It is surprising that no action is taken against private buses. So I have complained to the transport minister and the department concerned, drawing their attention to the issue,” Yadav said.

He claimed that post-Covid the bus fare from Rewari to Dharukhera was increased by the Transport Department from Rs 23 to Rs 25 but private bus operators charge Rs 30 on this route. Apart from this, they also endanger the lives of passengers by allowing them to sit on the roof of buses. It was a gross violation of the rules,” he added.

“I have filed many complaints in the past but no concrete action has been taken so far. Since the state has got a new transport minister, I have requested him to intervene in the matter and take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of passengers and check the arbitrariness of private buses,” Yadav said.

Dev Dutt, Director General (Roadways), Rewari, said that since the Secretary (RTA) is empowered to take action against private buses, therefore the complaint has been sent to the authorities for necessary action.
