Release date confirmed, iOS 18.2 Beta Live

Updated on October 25th with more information about the new developer beta.

Apple Intelligence is almost here, and Apple just confirmed when. We already knew it was coming in October, and now Apple has said it’s coming next week. And on Wednesday, October 23, Apple just released the first developer beta of iOS 18.2.

While the release of iOS 18.1 is highly anticipated, it is the iOS 18.2 developer beta that will be the next update, if there are no bugs to be fixed in the meantime, which is likely to generate more excitement as it packs a lot of new features.

Early adopters of the new software have already commented on the features they like. John-Anthony DiZotto c Tehradarfor example, talked about AI features coming to the Mail app, saying, “While it may not be as eye-catching as ChatGPT’s integration with Siri, Visual Intelligence, or Genmoji, I think AI is used in everyday life. the average consumer will appreciate the most. I’ve been using the new Mail app in the iOS 18.2 developer beta for about 24 hours now, and while it’s still in development, it makes me optimistic about Apple Intelligence.”

Disotto’s enthusiasm is fueled by powerful summarization tools, new categorization, and improved design. Together, they figured out what “mess in the inbox” is. It also warns that since it’s a developer beta, it shouldn’t be installed on your primary driver. I agree, early betas can be unstable or can hurt battery life.

While he’s not sure how often he’ll use the summarization tools, he was amazed at how much detail he gleaned while sorting through a thread of seven messages.

As noted below, this Mail feature is just one of many new features coming later this year. These include Visual Intelligence, which works with Camera Control on the iPhone 16 series phones. If you press and hold a button, the iPhone will provide additional information about what the camera can see, or translate a sign, recognize an address or phone number, and more. Apple said the iPhone 16 was the first to be designed from the ground up for Apple Intelligence, and this is an example of just that.

While iOS 18.1’s updates are exciting, it looks like iOS 18.2 will be the biggest yet in terms of Apple Intelligence. In addition to the details listed below, this update will also have Image Wand, which uses imaging tools to create an image in a note, such as in the Notes app. For example, if you drew something with the Apple Pencil on the iPad, it can turn a rough sketch into a better image.

There are also new details about a key element of Apple Intelligence: there is a waiting list. When you update to iOS 18.1, the Settings app includes a new feature called Apple Intelligence & Siri. This is where you can sign up for Apple Intelligence. When you do, you’ll be prompted to join a waiting list, just like those using the developer or public betas were supposed to do.

During this time, the waiting list moved quickly: I waited all of 10 minutes. This may change when the software reaches the critical mass that general release brings with it. However, if you’ve already used the beta version of Apple Intelligence, Apple said you don’t have to wait again.

So, as Ryan Christoffel points out 9to5Macthis is a sneaky way to bypass the waiting list. “You can join the Apple Intelligence waiting list today. as? By installing the iOS 18.1 public beta. Apple has just released iOS 18.1 RC Beta today. RC stands for Release Candidate, meaning the software will likely be identical to what will be released to all users next week… once you install iOS 18.1 RC, you can join the Apple Intelligence waiting list without waiting a day.” This means that next week you can jump to the general release of the software, but you won’t have to join the waiting list again.

iOS 18.1 release date

Next week means Monday, October 28, Tuesday, October 29, or Wednesday, October 30. I believe the exact release details will be at 10am PT on October 28th.

iOS 18.1: First taste of Apple’s intelligence

The first features of Apple’s personal intelligence system are almost here. More will follow in the next few months, but initial features include writing tools that will allow you to improve what you’ve written. You can check your text and iPhone can transcribe or summarize what you said. These tools are available on iPhone, including in Mail, Notes, Pages, and some third-party apps.

Photos has a new cleanup tool that can remove people and things that spoil your shot, and uses several machine learning tools to leave the background intact as if it was never there.

You can already record and transcribe audio, but iOS 18.1 adds the ability to record phone calls along with automatic notifications for participants. A summary is also generated after the call is completed.

Siri has received a new design that looks a little more central to the iPhone and will offer a more intuitive interaction.

Initially, Apple Intelligence on iPhone will only work with devices that have their language and Siri set to US English. But Apple has now released a developer beta that will extend this to other English versions.

iOS 18.2 developer beta is now available

A new iOS 18.2 developer beta has just launched, and it allows more English speakers to use Apple Intelligence, including English for Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

It also introduces a lot more features as well as improvements to the existing writing tools – you can specify what you’re looking for using the “Describe your change” element.

New features include Image Playground, which lets you create an image from an image in your photo library. You can save them in a new standalone app that will automatically update on all devices in the same Apple account.

And in iOS 18.2, the long-awaited Genmoji appears to create completely new emojis with just a text prompt. There’s also a first look at integration with ChatGPT. If Siri thinks ChatGPT can help, it will ask if you want to connect to it. Apple emphasized the security protections it has put in place for each request, and a ChatGPT account is not required. Visual Intelligence, which integrates with iPhone camera controls, is also available in the new beta version.

Apple has confirmed that the general release of Apple iOS 18.2 will take place in December.
