Lockport woman charged with felony DWI after reckless driver complaint

A 38-year-old Lockport woman has been charged with felony DWI following an investigation Tuesday night of a reckless driver complaint on South Transitway.

Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said they received a report of a vehicle “all over the road” on South Transit around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.

A deputy observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Transit and noted that it was drifting out of its lane and the driver failed to signal for a turn before changing lanes.

During the traffic stop, the deputy noted that the driver, identified as Latasha Porter, 38, of Lockport, had thrown the ticket out the window. She said she was on her way home from a fast food restaurant. Deputies noted that there was a child in the back seat of the car.

After a series of field sobriety tests, Porter was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated — a violation of Leandra’s Law, endangering the welfare of a child and driving without a license.

Porter was taken to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, where a breath test determined her blood alcohol content was 0.21%.

Porter was being held at the Niagara County Correctional Facility pending charges.

The passenger in the vehicle also had an active warrant out of Erie County and was turned over to Erie County Sheriff’s deputies at the county line.
