A Delaware County man has been charged with killing the mother of their 8-year-old son and her mother during a burglary at their Willingboro home, Burlington County District Attorney LaChia L. Bradshaw and Willingboro Township Acting Public Safety Director Capt. Ian Bucks announced. Saturday.

Junior Edwards, 37, of Lansdowne, was charged with two counts of murder, as well as burglary and possession of a weapon, authorities said. He was taken into custody Friday in Philadelphia on unrelated charges, authorities said.

Edwards is accused of killing Katherine Nunez, 33, and her mother, Marisol Nunez, 54, authorities said. Both died of multiple gunshot wounds and were found in an upstairs bedroom of their home in Willingboro’s Hawthorne Park neighborhood, authorities said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Edwards and Kathryn Nunez’s son was home when the shooting happened but was not injured. Edwards was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The child was placed in State Department of Protection and Permanency of Childrenaccording to Joel Bewley, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

Possible motives for the shooting have not been released. According to Bewley, Edwards and Catherine Nunez have not been romantically involved for some time.

Police were dispatched to a home in the first block of Harrington Circle around 4 a.m. Wednesday for a 911 call from Catherine Nunes to report a burglary, Bewley said. According to law enforcement officers, the intruder broke a window on the first floor and entered the house. A gun believed to have been used in the killing was found outside, authorities said.

Edwards is being held in Pennsylvania, Bewley said. The Burlington County District Attorney plans to seek his extradition to New Jersey on murder charges, he said.
