Viking RCMP at the scene of a truck fire on Highway 619

Viking RCMP are on the scene of a serious vehicle collision involving a semi truck carrying crude oil.

In a news release sent at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, police said the truck was traveling on Highway 619 when it hit a soft shoulder, slid into a ditch and caught fire.

The driver received minor injuries.

There were no other vehicles.

Highway 619 was expected to be closed for several hours. Police asked people to avoid the area at this time.

Viking is located approximately 125 kilometers southeast of Edmonton.
