‘It was very, very special’ – Daryl Jacob partnered with 1,000th winner as Ottizini goes all out for incredible success

Daryl Jacob took his 1000th winning jump in Britain, Ireland and France Ottizzini did it all and jumped well to take a gutsy win in the 3m½ft handicap hurdle.

The multiple Grade One-winning jockey only returned from injury early last month when he hinted this season could be his last, and he completed the milestone with a nine-run win over Faithfullayer.

“It was very, very special,” Jacob told Racing TV. “This is an important day. I’ve been waiting for him since last year, but it’s nice that it happened.”

Ottizini is trained by one of the rider’s new supporters in County Antrim, handler Stuart Crawford, who also trains for owners Simon Munir and Isaac Suede. The couple’s “double green” clothing also retains Jacob’s services.

The jockey said of the seven-year-old mare: “She was fantastic. I just went there and rode her and she really enjoyed it. She jumped great and traveled great. She is very honest and very strong.

We trained her over the fences last week and she was good there, so I think she’ll get over them at some point.”

Rhino ruled the chase for the debut

White rhinoceros scored his sixth win and first win over fences, beating Donny Boy by two lengths in a 2m4½f handicap chase under Henry Brooke for joint trainers Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero.

His progress over hurdles last term saw him win from 123 at Cheltenham in December and he should be able to win more races in this new field over the winter.
