Rigati Gachagua pleads with Kindiki not to end the fight against alcohol in Mount Kenya: “Imeanza Kurudi”

  • He said that he received information about the return of alcohol in areas where the government intensified the fight

Kirinyaga – Former Vice President Rigati Gachagua has asked his predecessor, Kiture Kindiki, to ensure that the fight against illegal alcohol in Mount Kenya continues.

Addressing those attending a funeral ceremony in Kirinyaga on Saturday, November 2, Gachagua appeared concerned that his two-year effort to combat alcohol and substance abuse in the region could be jeopardized.

What Gachagua asked from Kindiki

He asked the current vice president and those in power do not complete the initiative even with his removal from office.

“We ask those who replaced us to do two years, fight alcohol, save our youth, please, even if you don’t want me, let the work continue to help our children. Our youth have been lost to substance abuse and I see them start to abuse alcohol again, people have told me that ever since I started having problems, alcohol abuse has started again.

“Don’t let the culture return so that I am seen as if I never worked. I myself do not drink alcohol. You are not harming me, but our children,” he added.

During his tenure, the former vice president specialized in combating the alcohol menace in Mount Kenyawhere the youth remained deprived of dignity.

Elsewhere, Gachagua was tasked with overseeing coffee and tea reforms rid the sector of cartels and guarantee incomes for farmers in production regions.

He expressed pride in his work, saying that there is much to write about.

His tenure as president ended after the parliament impeached him.

What Ruto said about Gachagua

But while Gachagua was proud of what he was able to achieve during his time in office, his former boss was of a different opinion.

The President addressing the nation at Kindiki’s swearing-in in Nairobi William Ruto reported that he was left to strengthen the work of the National Executive without the help of Gachagua.

The president also suggested that the former vice president was not loyal to him.

He said he felt he alone served as president despite the presence of a deputy who was supposed to be his main assistant.

In an apparent plea to Kindiki, Ruto asked him to use his eloquence, professorship and know-how to inform Kenyans about the government’s agenda and programmes.
