ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (CBS) — Police are searching for suspects in the shooting death of a man Friday night at an Arlington Heights hotel.

The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. at the Red Roof Inn at 22 W. Algonquin Road.

Arlington Heights police and firefighters responded to the hotel after a guest services employee called to report that someone had entered the lobby bleeding from a stab wound.

According to preliminary information, several people kicked in the door of a second-floor room and confronted two sleeping residents, including a man who came out of the room and was shot by one of the aggressors, police said.

The four suspects fled the area in a white sedan.

The victim ran to the hotel office and asked the clerk to call 911. Another resident also ran to the office for safety.

The first rescuers who arrived found that the victim was unresponsive and began to save his life. After it was determined that all suspects had fled and the scene was secured, paramedics attended and continued advanced life support. They took the victim to the first-level trauma center, where his condition was stabilized.

Officers from the Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Inverness and Palatine police departments responded to the call for assistance. Forensic technicians documented and collected items of evidentiary value, including several shell casings that were found near the victim’s hotel room.

Detectives assigned to the case interview witnesses and review and evaluate both digital and physical evidence. They will also initiate legal proceedings for further investigation.

Since then, the scene has been guarded, and the surrounding area is not threatened.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
