Onigbonbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is mourning the sudden death of its Chairman, Oladotun Olakanle, who died at the age of 54.

Olakanle is reported to have died in the early hours of Saturday, November 2, 2024, although the cause of death remains unconfirmed. His death came only a day before his death. The Olakanle administration has handed over vehicles to police formations in his council area, demonstrating its commitment to strengthening security in the region.

When was Olakanle’s last public appearance

Vanguard disclosed that his last public appearance was on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at the funeral party of Dr. Adesola Taiwo, a renowned leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and CEO of Adefemi Taiwo Hospitals. A close friend who attended the party with Olakanle expressed shock and disappointment at his sudden death.

The leadership of Olakanle has had a significant impact on Onigbongbo LCDA, including the commissioning of projects such as road construction, the delivery of compactor trucks to support LAWMA and the provision of cash grants to elderly beneficiaries.

How many Onigbongbo LCDA chiefs have died in office

The tragic development marks the second time a sitting Council boss in Onigbongbo LCDA has died in office during his second term. Olakanle’s predecessor, Babatunde Oke, also died of complications from Covid-19 while serving his second term.
