Drug seizure in Pearl River leads to arrest

Rockland County, New York. Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Darryl Wright, 41, of Pearl River, was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. The arrest follows a six-month investigation by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Narcotics Unit into drug sales in Orangetown.

On Wednesday, a search of Wright’s Pearl River residence by narcotics task force detectives and the Orangetown Police Department led to the seizure of two kilograms of cocaine, heroin and additional drug paraphernalia. The operation represents the efforts of local law enforcement officers to stop drug trafficking in the community.

District Attorney Walsh said the arrest underscores Rockland County’s strong stance against illegal drug activity. The investigation involved joint efforts with the Rockland County Probation Department and the Orangetown Police Department’s Detective and Patrol Division.

Wright was arraigned Wednesday before Judge Patrick Loftus in Orangetown District Court and ordered held in the Rockland County Jail without bail. Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Dugandzic and Assistant District Attorney John Luongo have been assigned to prosecute the case.
