Court rules Diddy’s accuser must reveal his name or rape case will be dropped

A woman who filed an anonymous lawsuit Sean “Diddy” Combs for rape earlier this month, she was told she had to reveal her name or her lawsuit would be dismissed.

trans NBCthe woman’s complaint was filed under the name “Jane Doe” in the Southern District of New York and alleged that Combs raped her in 2004 at a Manhattan hotel when she was a 19-year-old college student.

Texas attorney Tony Busby is who found he was working with 120 people who had made new claims against the disgraced rapper – filed a lawsuit under the Gender-Based Violence Victims Protection Act, which allows victims to file older lawsuits within a two-year window (ending in March 2025).

The complaint alleged that Jane Doe was invited to one of Combs’ photo shoots in Brooklyn in 2004, after which she and a friend attended an afterparty where they were invited to Combs’ “more exclusive party.”

Her complaint says she and her friend agreed and were driven to the Marriott Hotel in Manhattan by a member of Combs’ entourage. Doe and her friend were allegedly grabbed and taken to a separate bedroom separate from the main party and locked inside with the rap mogul.

According to the document, Combs allegedly got them drunk, ordered them to take cocaine and forcibly touched them. He allegedly ordered Doe’s girlfriend to perform oral sex “or he would kill them both” and raped Doe.

Once a guard opened the door and Doe’s friend rushed in, but Doe was ordered to stay and waited for about half an hour until another guard came and told her she could leave, the complaint said.

In a ruling Wednesday (Oct. 20), U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Wyskocil said that while the case is highly sensitive and likely to generate a high level of public scrutiny if Doe proceeds under her own name, her desire to remain anonymous will not outweigh the interests of Combs and to the public “within the customary and constitutional presumption of openness” of the trial.

Judge Wyskocil went on to say that the woman’s complaint did not provide sufficient evidence that she would face a “significant risk of harm” if she were to be named publicly, and that her lawyers had offered “no support for that claim” other than the fact that the 20-year so Combs allegedly threatened Doe’s life if she fled during the alleged attack.

The complaint stated that Combs had no contact with Doe in the years following the alleged incident and that Combs is now in custody.

The judge has now given Jane Doe until November 13 to file a complaint on her own behalf, “or this case will be dismissed.” She said Doe’s lawyers had not provided enough evidence that her personality could cause psychological harm, and said the prospect of “public humiliation” was not enough.

Buzbee, in a statement provided CNNsaid: “We have great respect for the court and its decision. Our job as advocates for these victims is to protect their safety as much as possible, which is what we have tried to do by filing cases anonymously. Anonymous or not, this case will continue, period.”
