The comprehensive high-quality development of science and technology innovation in the Yangtze River Delta region received a boost on Friday.

This happened thanks to the initiation of joint research of the “15th five-year plan” for the comprehensive development of scientific and technical innovations in the field of construction in the region.

A seminar on the science and technology development of the Yangtze River Delta was held in Shanghai on Friday as part of the 2024 Global Conference on Sustainable Urban Development, with a number of new efforts to promote science and technology innovation in the region.

Through innovative cooperation working models and strengthening planning, the three provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui and Shanghai will jointly draw up the “15th Five-Year Plan” for the integrated development of science and technology innovation in the construction industry in the region.

The plan will focus on an integrated cooperation mechanism in the construction of the Yangtze River Delta, a catalog of new technologies, the creation of an expert database, research on major topics, research projects, industry alliances, joint development of scientific and technical innovation platforms, incubation of demonstration projects and organization events. This will form a number of achievements in the comprehensive development of scientific and technical innovations in the construction industry in the region.

In order to take full advantage of the high-quality talent in the region, the three provinces and Shanghai have reached a consensus and launched a mechanism for mutual recognition and exchange of an expert database of science and technology innovation in the construction industry of the Yangtze River Delta.

“The goal is to create a talent pool for the construction industry in the Yangtze River Delta region, providing intellectual support and technical assistance for high-quality integrated urban development in the region,” said Liu Qianwei, chief engineer of the Shanghai Administrative Committee. housing construction and urban development.

In 2018, the economic aggregate of the region’s three provinces and one city accounted for 23.9 percent of the total in the country. It has risen to 24.4 percent by 2023, effectively increasing by 0.1 percentage point each year.

By last year, R&D investment accounted for 3.34 percent of the Yangtze River Delta’s total GDP, compared with 2.81 percent in 2018.

“This year, we formulated and released the third round of the three-year action plan for the Yangtze River Delta region, which includes 165 tasks over three years, with more than 20 tasks in the fields of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation,” said Zhang Zhongwei, executive deputy director of the regional office cooperation in the Yangtze River Delta.
