A special train, which was launched to transport agricultural produce from Chapainawabganj to Dhaka at a lower price to curb the rise in prices of essential commodities, has been suspended.

Sujit Kumar Biswas, chief commercial manager, Railway East Zone, said that the railway management had informed all concerned yesterday evening.

On October 26, trains on the Chapainawabganj-Dhaka route with agricultural products were started.

The train was supposed to transport agricultural products every Saturday. Before reaching Tejgaon station in Dhaka, it had to stop at 13 stations including Nachole and Amnura Junction.

On the first day, a special train left for Dhaka from Rohanpur station in Chapainawabganj without any agricultural goods.

After the special train was introduced, there was no response from farmers, Sujith said, adding, “They are not interested in transporting agricultural produce by train, which is forcing the authorities to stop it.”
