The .4 million project replaces and improves the North Bridge

BURLINGTON, Vermont (WCAX) – A new bridge over the Boquete River in Essex County, N.Y. is improving safety and sustainability along a critical access road to North Country destinations.

That’s what New York City Department of Transportation officials are saying after the completion of a $3.4 million project to replace a bridge spanning State Route 22 in the town of Essex.

The new bridge, which is now open to traffic, replaced the 91-year-old structure. It is longer than the previous bridge, which officials say will better protect the river’s ecosystem. It also has wider shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists.
