A former Westland police sergeant was found guilty of two counts of ethnic intimidation and one count of assault and battery Friday in Third District Court.

Kevin Yudt, 43, of Grass Lake, faces two years each for both counts of ethnic intimidation and a 93-day misdemeanor count for one count of assault and battery, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office.

April 6, 2023 Security prevented Judt from entering the MGM Grand Detroit casino for appearing in an intoxicated state.

In response, Judt identified himself as a Westland police sergeant and told security: “I’m waiting for you when you get to Westland, and you won’t survive.”

Investigators say he then shoved the guard in the chest while yelling racial slurs.

In May 2023, Judt was fired from the Westland Police Department. In May 2024, charges were brought against him.

“No one is above the law, and I applaud the jurors for their service and dedication to justice,” Nessel said in the release. “This type of behavior has no place in our society, especially for those sworn to protect and serve.

“My office continues to pursue threats of violence and ethnic intimidation to bring those responsible to justice.”

Judt will be sentenced in Third District Court on December 6.
