A convicted murderer is now guilty of selling firearms in prison

Already sentenced to life in prison for two murders in London, 34-year-old William Macdonald continued to add to his already lengthy criminal record while behind bars at Collins Bay Prison.

A few months ago, McDonald, who was born and raised in London, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to sell a firearm to an unnamed person.

Sentencing him, Judge Kelly Gorman told Macdonald: “It’s amazing to me that you could, after serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, attempt to broker the sale of firearms.”

McDonald was involved in two high-profile murder cases in London.

In 2020, he was convicted of second-degree murder for shooting his former friend Emmanuel Awai. In 2016, he was found with a gunshot wound to the head in an apartment on Connaught Avenue.

Then, 12 months later, Macdonald was again convicted of second-degree murder, this time for shooting Jonathan Zack, who was killed as he walked home alone after an evening playing with friends through a park in north-east London in 2012.

For his most recent conviction, MacDonald received a three-year sentence, to be served consecutively to his murder conviction.

Before finishing, Judge Gorman told him: “I recommend you keep your head down sir, I suspect all eyes will be on you for the rest of your time in Collins Bay, so it’s best to keep a straight line.”

The court reported that McDonald’s life sentence is being appealed.
