Iga Sviatek talks about the changes Wim Fissette made to his game

Tennis fans haven’t seen Iga Sviatek in action since her loss to Jessica Pegula in the US Open quarterfinals. Despite missing the entire WTA Asian Tour, it has been an eventful two months for Sviatek.

In early October, Svyatek suddenly fired her coach Tomash Viktorovskyiwho was with her during the most successful three years of her career. Almost two weeks later, Sviatek hired former coach Naomi Osaka, Wim Fisset.

With the WTA Finals starting tomorrow, fans and media alike will be interested to see what (if any) changes Fissette has made to Svientek’s game. The five-time Grand Slam champion gave a refreshingly candid answer to questions about her new coach on Friday.

Svyatek said: “If I answer this question, then everyone will know what my weak point is (laughs). No, I mean, I think it’s kind of obvious. I definitely want to improve my serve, as I have done in recent years, I feel that I still need to continue it, I am not a complete player.

“I think tactically there are a lot of ways I could go and have more variety on the court. Uim has some good ideas,” Sviatek said. However, the 23-year-old played down expectations of any major changes to her game.

Svyatek concluded her speech by saying: “Honestly, so far we have just been preparing for this tournament and getting to know each other. Real changes, we’ll talk about them during the offseason because that’s the right time to do it. At the moment I have tried to be in the best possible shape for this tournament, we are going to work on them during the pre-season.”

Sviatek enters the WTA Finals as the world number two with a record of 54-7 and five singles titles this year. She will face Barbora Krejcikova at 7:30 am ET on Sunday, November 3.
