Here’s everything you need to know about the first time he was jailed and more.

When did Young Thug go to jail?

Since May 2022, the rapper was in prison. Young Thug was arrested on May 9 on multiple gang-related charges along with 27 others, including Annain a 56-count indictment involving record label YSL.

He had a bail hearing a month after his arrest, but was denied bail. Prosecutors claimed he was the ringleader of the operation and called him the “most dangerous” member of the alleged gang, arguing he should not be allowed back on the streets.

Why did he go to prison?

Young Thug was jailed following a 56-count indictment for violating Georgia’s Corrupt and Racketeering Organizations Act.

He was identified as the leader of YSL, which prosecutors said, although it originally referred to his label Young Stoner Life Records, also stands for Young Slime Life, an Atlanta-based gang with ties to the national group the Bloods. Fulton County District Attorney Fanny Willis describes the gang as violent, with a history of crimes dating back to 2012, including murders, robberies, thefts, carjackings and assaults.

What happened during the trial?

After his arrest in 2022, it took more than a year to empanel a jury, and the YSL RICO trial finally began on November 27, 2023. However, the trial has faced significant challenges, including the stabbing of a co-defendant in the Fulton County Jail, a witness testifying during the trial, the recusal of one judge and the recuse of another judge.

One notable moment early in the trial occurred when Tag’s attorney, Brian Steelepresented an alternative definition of his client’s name as “Truly humble under God.” He also claimed that “Pushin P” stands for “pushing positivity” and that YSL was named after fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.

Another viral moment came in January, when a video showed his legal team playing Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle,” with everyone in attendance barely reacting to the rapper’s 2014 breakout hit.

What was his plea deal?

On October 31, Young Thug pleaded guilty to six counts: one count of engaging in criminal street gang activity, one count of violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and on one count of possession of a machine gun.

Judge Paige Reese Whitaker sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment without any term of imprisonment. “I know you’re talented and if you decide to continue rapping, you need to try to use your influence to let kids know that this is not the way to go and that there are ways out of poverty other than hooking up with influential people. the guy at the end of the street sells drugs,” the judge noted.
