No one was injured in the shooting of a deputy in Pima County

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Authorities are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Pima County Thursday evening, October 31st.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it happened near East Old Spanish Trail and South Galileo Lane.

Shortly after 3:45 p.m., deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Rincon County observed a vehicle violating traffic laws at S. Houghton and E. Tanque Verde roads.

PCSD said a traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle failed and fled southbound on Houghton Road. When the car was leaving, it almost collided with the deputy.

Deputies lost sight of the vehicle as it left the scene and entered the oncoming traffic. Deputies moved the vehicle to a convenience store at S. Houghton Road and E. Drexel Road.

PCSD said the suspect’s vehicle collided with several vehicles in the parking lot before fleeing again northbound on Houghton Road. Two additional collisions involving a suspicious vehicle were reported through 911 at nearby intersections.

Deputies eventually located the vehicle in the area of ​​E. Old Spanish Trail S. Galileo Ln.

The authorities reported that when the deputies went to make contact, the suspect left again in the car. During this interaction, the deputy fired a pistol issued by the department.

According to PCSD, as the suspect vehicle approached E. Old Spanish Trail, deputies pulled it over, causing it to stop at the entrance to the Rocking K Ranch Community.

PCSD said no one was injured and there are no suspects.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Task Force was activated for the incident, which is standard for all police-involved shootings. The Oro Valley Police Department is the lead investigator of this officer-involved shooting. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a separate investigation to determine if any policy violations occurred.
