13-year-old Armin and 12-year-old Leila spent half the semester looking for a stolen cash register

Two siblings spent their school holidays finding and returning a stolen cash register to a cafe.

When Armin and Leila heard that Snails Delicates in Cardiff had been broken into three weeks earlier, they decided to search the area.

“I just like helping our community, I like our community to spread joy and help around,” said 13-year-old Armin.

Fran Sykes, 53, who owns the cafe, posted words of thanks to the couple on Facebook, calling them local heroes.

She added: “We gave them a reward of warm chocolate brownies, sprinkles and ice cream…they were delighted to find it.”

The cash register was found on the tracks of the Rivbina railway station and removed with the help of railway workers.

Armina and his 12-year-old sister Leyla often do good deeds, such as picking up litter in the park and cleaning the streets.

Leila said the pair would start looking for the cash register at about 09:00, starting their search in Caedelyn Park and then expanding through Rhiwbina.

The hard work paid off on Halloween when they spotted a cash register on the tracks at the Rivbin train station adjacent to the park.

The station was closed and inaccessible at the time, but they enlisted the help of railroad workers who helped find the missing cash register.

“We collected the till in the park again and wore it in my jumper … to make sure there were no fingerprints on it,” Leila said.

When a further £2 was found in the register, which Fran split between the couple, giving them £1 each.

And how did Armin spend his £1?

“I gave it to the homeless,” he said.
