Massive fire closes Ohio River bridge near Cincinnati, damaging steel structure

CINCINNATI (AP) — A massive fire under a bridge over the Ohio River closed the busy route between Cincinnati and northern Kentucky on Friday and damaged part of the steel structure. No casualties have been reported.

The fire broke out overnight near a playground at a park under the bridge, closing Interstate 471, a Cincinnati Fire Department spokesman said.

Video shows flames rising above a bridge near downtown Cincinnati. Concrete crews fell from the bridge and the fire ripped through several steel girders, firefighters said.

After several hours, the fire was brought under control, but the bridge will remain closed. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
