Two dead, 6 injured in shooting in Orlando during Halloween celebration

ORLANDO — At least two people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting in downtown Orlando on Halloween night, police said.

Orlando, Fla., police first received reports of the shooting around 1 a.m. and immediately responded to the scene, Orlando police said at a Friday morning news conference.

Authorities confirmed that at least two people were killed and six others were injured in the shooting, and a 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody.

According to the Orlando Police Department, the victims were taken to the hospital and were between 19 and 39 years old.

Authorities also said about 100 officers were on duty downtown at the time of the shooting.

Orlando police have not released a motive for the shooting, but said the gunman appeared very deliberate in his movements as he walked past several officers armed with handguns and made his way through the crowd.

Police confirmed that the 17-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, has already been arrested and had a 2023 grand larceny conviction.
