The new Ford Ranger EV will change the rules of the game when it arrives in 2027

New Ford Ranger EVs are on track to compete with the likes Maxus T90 EV and Isuzu D-Max BEV. Fully electric pickup is being developed by the “skunkworks” team in California on a new platform and should be launched in 2027.

Ford currently has F-150 Lightning as its only all-electric pick-up, and while there’s been no mention of UK availability for a Ranger-sized model, we expect it to continue the US firm’s dominance of mid-size pick-ups in Britain.

Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed some details about the new electric truck during a recent Q3 earnings call. “In my 40 years in the industry, I’ve seen many game-changing products, but the mid-size electric pickup truck developed by our California team had to be one of the most exciting. It’s an incredible package and consumer technology for a segment we know well. This is in line with the cost structure of any Chinese automaker that builds in Mexico in the future.”

Instead of using an adaptation of an internal combustion truck platform like the F-150 Lightning, a new platform will be developed for the Ranger EV. Partnership between Volkswagen and Ford on current Amarok and Ranger trucks are not expected to be covered by this new model.

The current Ranger is already electrified plug-in hybrid of power, although the 11.8 kWh battery only gives the model 27 miles of electric-only range. Although the technical details are still unknown, we expect the Ranger EV to be able to compete Maxus Range of 220 miles of electric car T90.
