Prosecutors intend to try the teenagers as adults in Augusta’s murder

BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) – There were new developments Thursday in the case that rocked the Augusta community after 93-year-old Joan Johnson was found dead in her home last year.

the suspects two 14-year-old girls were arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Augustappeared in court Thursday, where prosecutors filed a motion to upgrade the charges.

Prosecutors are now trying to try the two teenagers as adults.

A hearing is scheduled for December 10 to determine whether the girls will be tried as adults.

Both girls pleaded not guilty and are now in a juvenile detention center.
