They include Kaylen Deller, who was reportedly Chad’s on-again, off-again girlfriend and the last person to see Mullen before he disappeared last month..

Jax News’ Shanila Kabir followed the case, and several residents told her the story shook the community. Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies said the investigation has drawn the attention of many people in Florida and beyond. Capt. Chris Stallings said the case remains unsolved but is moving forward.

“This case is very active. The update is currently still pending. We still have a few people we want to interview,” said Captain Stallings of the Putnam County Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Friends and family of Chad Mullen said they are waiting for answers and arrests of those responsible for his death. Mullens’ body was found in a shallow grave Monday night in St. John’s. Police classified his death as a homicide.

Law enforcement officers assume that several people are involved in the incident. Stallings adds that investigators have arranged to speak with some of those people.

Stallings said ex-girlfriend Kaylen Deller was in court this week, but on unrelated charges. He said the sheriff’s office is still trying to get her for an interview about Chad Mullen’s murder because she was the last person to see him alive. Also, the last time his phone pinged was on her property.

Kaylen told Action News Jax that she last saw Mullen on September 9. She also said he left with another woman.

“We reached out to Ms. Keilen very early on, and we would still like to speak with Ms. Keilen. When the investigation first started, she did say she was willing to help and do whatever she could,” said Capt. Stallings.

Officers stress this is an active investigation with many moving parts. They ask everyone to be patient and vigilant.

As Action News Jax previously reported, family and friends said it was only with the help of the community that Chad Mullen’s body was found. Capt. Stallings said he is asking everyone to continue to come forward with information and tips.
