Virgil van Dijk ‘close’ to Liverpool deal, contract details revealed

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is one of three key players at the club who are out of contract at the end of this season.

However, the Dutchman has been the most open about reaching a new deal at the club, something we haven’t seen as often with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Speaking at an interview earlier this month the 33-year-old confirmed that talks were ongoing and that he was solely focused on the Reds.

“I can say that discussions are obviously ongoing, but I don’t know, we’ll see what happens in the future. I’m fully focused on Liverpool, I want to win the games that are in front of me and nothing else.

“I don’t know what the future will bring. I can only tell you that the discussions have started and we will see.”

Now, according to rumors on Xofficially on Twitter, Van Dijk is close to reaching a deal with the club, with just one final step left before everything is agreed.

The report states that the 33-year-old wants to sign a 3-year contract, while Anfield have offered him a 2-year deal.

This seems like a minor inconvenience and the best way to satisfy all parties would be a potential 2-year deal with an option to extend for another year.

While this source is notoriously hit and miss, in recent months they have been the first to provide accurate information on numerous developments at the club, Liverpool’s Martin Zubimendi deal and Anthony Gordon’s latest transfer.

So take this with a grain of salt, however, it seems like Virgilio will be the easiest player to negotiate a new contract with.
