PORTLAND, OR (KOIN) — A man was hospitalized and later arrested on drug charges in Scappoose Wednesday morning after running from police and ingesting an unknown amount of “white powder,” authorities said.

Just after 9 a.m., officers responded to the parking lot of a cannabis store off Columbia River Highway for a report of people sleeping in a car and possibly using drugs.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man fled from officers on foot heading toward the Heritage Park area, police said.

However, officers soon contacted medical units after they discovered the man had swallowed an “unknown amount of a white powdery substance” and started vomiting, authorities said.
