4 arrested on suspicion of smuggling marijuana at San Diego International Airport

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Four people were arrested at San Diego International Airport this week for allegedly trying to smuggle more than 150 pounds of marijuana onto a London-bound flight.

The four suspects — two men and two women — were arrested Tuesday night after their luggage was searched by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer who was “conducting targeted enforcement operations” at the airport, according to the complaint filed in San Diego federal court. court.

Each defendant was carrying one suitcase, and a CBP officer found “abnormalities” consistent with narcotics when X-raying the suitcases, the complaint said.

A subsequent search of the suitcases revealed 93 packages weighing 152.6 pounds, according to the complaint.

Each of the defendants denied knowing the drugs were found in their luggage, but made statements to investigators indicating they were going to receive compensation for bringing the suitcases to London, according to the complaint, which further states that one of the men said he was offered 2,500 dollars, a plane ticket, and a hotel room with an additional fee if he hires others to help.

All four were charged Wednesday with exporting a controlled substance.
