A police officer resigns after being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving

TEWKSBURY, Mass. (WWLP) – A Massachusetts state trooper from Tewksbury has resigned after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A South Hadley man has been convicted of stealing more than $100,000 from businesses

James Doran was arrested Sunday night after crashing his car. He resigned and was dishonorably discharged from the state police. Police say the crash sent two people to the hospital after they were rear-ended at a traffic light. According to NBC Boston, the crash was strong enough to deploy the airbags and cause severe damage to the front of the trooper’s vehicle.

Officers say the former police officer was outside his car, slurring his words and smelling of alcohol, with open bottles in the car.

Doran was sworn into the Massachusetts State Police just three weeks ago. He is due back in court on Dec. 6 for a preliminary hearing.
