Two Sunbury men charged with attempted murder have been returned to court after the case was dismissed in August

Oct. 30 – SUNBURY – Two Sunbury men charged with attempted murder will return to court in November after their August trial ended in a mistrial.

Anthony Moultrie and Frankie Rich will appear for jury selection on Nov. 18, and the trial will begin the following day.

Moultrie and Richa are charged with attempted murder. Sunbury police accuse them of trying to shoot Sunbury man and relative Ajani Munsh-Oush Uhuru. Earlier this year, Uhuru was found guilty of premeditated murder for shooting 30-year-old Karim Jakes at a Sunbury convenience store and running away on May 19, 2022.

The trial began on August 15, but on the same day, Presiding Judge Paige Rosini announced a mistrial following a fatal shooting outside the courthouse involving one of the alleged victims in the case during a lunch break.

Naesir Robinson, who testified moments earlier, was arrested along with Carnell Shelborn of Wilkes-Barre in connection with the slaying of 20-year-old Daveon Creel, who police said was shot outside the courthouse in a nearby parking lot.

Police accuse Nasir and Robinson of using their car to block Creel — Moultrie’s relative — moments before the shooting.

Police arrested Robinson and Shelbourne on the night of the shooting. They are charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Sunbury Police Chief Travis Bremigen said two men blocked Creel from leaving a parking space and a third man, Danarius Springs, of Northumberland, opened fire, hitting Creel in the chest and killing him.

The search for Springs is ongoing, Bremigen said.

Since his arraignment, Moultrie, who remains in jail, has been trying to make bail and was granted a reduced bond from $100,000 to $20,000, but officials said he has yet to post the cash.

Rich remains free on bail. Moultrie was released on bond, but city police say he was involved in an incident at a Sunbury grocery store and is now charged with intimidation of a witness, and his bond has been revoked.

Northumberland County District Attorney Mike O’Donnell, who is prosecuting the case, said the incidents are gang-related.

Jury selection will begin at 9 a.m. on November 18.
