Inside Voices, a rock band from Mississippi and Louisiana, recently released a new music video for their single “Way Back to Myself,” which was filmed in downtown Vicksburg.

Frontman Tyler Jones spoke to The Post about the new single.

“We had some very loose ideas,” he said. “We wanted to be able to use downtown because I think there’s a lot of fun there.”

The video was largely improvised, Jones said, and some of the locations were chosen because of a relationship with Zach Erickson of Key City Brewery.

Jones said Inside Voices and Key City have essentially been business partners in the past.

“We thought, ‘Maybe we can do, you know, somebody try to go through a bunch of different doors that are the wrong doors,’ so to speak, and then come somewhere else,” Jones said. “And we started playing with the idea more, and then we talked to Zach at the Brewery.”

The video features Erickson, Key City’s owner and head brewer, and the band at various downtown locations, including Key City Brewery, the Strand Theater and the waterfront.

“So it was kind of an original idea about a simple guy who wakes up with some keys, (and he’s) trying to figure out how to get back to wherever the hell he’s trying to go. And then everything somehow appeared from there.”

The other members of the band are Alex Stokes, Taylor Bice and Connor Matthews. Matthews and Jones have been playing music together since 2009. Inside Voices started its activities in 2015.

Jones said the band plans to release another video for the new song in a few weeks, which will be a sort of “part two” to the “Way Back to Myself” video.

The release of the band’s next full-length album “If it Matters” is scheduled for January.

Their connection to Vicksburg also includes their previous music video, “Memento,” which was filmed at Vicksburg National Military Park.

“We’re very happy that Vicksburg has been good to us in terms of being able to get the vaccinations, and also that people have just supported us; Daniel Boone from 61 Coffee and the Strand is just as awesome as Zack and everyone in Key City.”
