The EU promises conflicts with tariffs; Bourbon, jeans, peanut butter, motorcycles light goals

Brussels -American tariffs for steel and aluminum “will not be response”, the Chief of the European Union Ursula von Der Leeen promised on Tuesday, adding that they would provoke strict counter -countermeasures from the block of 27 countries. This means that US sign industries, such as bourbon, jeans and motorcycles, should be bearded.

“The EU will act to protect its economic interests,” von Der Leeen said in response to US President Donald Trump’s imposing Fariffs for steel and aluminum the previous day.

“Tariffs are taxes – bad for business, worse for consumers,” said von Der Leeen. “EU uncrimable tariffs will not be response – they provoke a firm and proportional countermeasures.”

Just as Trump has set similar tariffs during his first presidency, EU counter -communications could easily mean those who were used for revenge if the measures came into force on March 12.

Bernd Lange, Chairman of the Committee on Trade Committees of the European Parliament, warned that previous trade measures were suspended only and could be easily restored.

“When it starts again now, then, of course, we immediately restore our countermeasures,” Lange said for German RBB24.

“Motorcycles, jeans, peanut butter, bourbon, whiskey and a whole range of products that, of course, also affect American exporters,” he would have been focused, he added.

The EU Commission, which negotiates trade relations on behalf of the Bloc, stated that it is not clear that they would use counter -measures, but officials and observers have stated that they were aimed at republican states and traditionally strong US exports.

In Germany, which is the largest EU economy, Chancellor Olaf Soltz said Parliament that “if the US does not leave us a choice, the European Union will react united,” adding: “After all, trade wars always cost both parties.”

Trump is kicks of foreign steel and aluminum from a 25% tax Hoping that they will give local manufacturers to facilitate intensive global competition, which will allow them to charge higher prices.

The EU EU Vice President Marosh Shefchovich said on Tuesday that the tariffs “economically counterproductive, especially given the deeply integrated production chains established by our broad transatlantic trade and investment relationships.”

“We protect our employees, businesses and consumers,” Shefchovich said, but he added that “it is not our desirable scenario. We remain a committed constructive dialogue. We are ready for negotiations and find mutually beneficial solutions where possible.”

According to EU estimates, the volume of trade between the two parties is about $ 1.5 trillion, which is about 30% of global trade. “Much threatens for both sides,” he said to the EU legislative body.

Despite the fact that the block has considerable surplus exports to goods, it says that it is partially offset by US surplus in services.

The EU says trade in goods reached 851 billion euros ($ 878 billion) in 2023, with excess trade of € 156 billion ($ 161 billion) for the EU. Services trading cost 688 billion euros ($ 710 billion) with a shortage of trade of 104 billion euros ($ 107 billion) over the EU.
