Power in Greece launched an emergency rescue group to Santorini after a splash of seismic activity that slammed on a popular island, causing fears of a large earthquake, CAPE {Town} and more Reports.

“We are dealing with a very intense geological phenomenon,” Michotakis said, urging the islands to follow the civil protection management. “We ask everyone to stay calm and listen to power.”

Although experts indicated that earthquakes were not directly related to the current volcano of Santorini, the frequency and intensity of tremor caused increasing concern.

In response, local authorities created emergency shelters and started preparing for a potential evacuation. Rescue groups, including a 26-member crew with a rescue dog, arrived on the island to help.

Meanwhile, many locals and visitors rushed to the ferry terminals, hoping to leave the island until the situation is stabilized.

Some tourists, like Nadiya Benor, the Moroccan Guide, decided to temporarily leave the island by buying parsel tickets at the neighboring NACOS.

Others, like Jannis Fragiadakis, a restaurant worker, decided to stay, trusting that the island would eventually return to normal.

Island SantoriniKnown for its stunning villages from rock and rich history, every year it attracts millions of tourists, most arrives through ferry, flights or cruise ships.

The volcanic past of the island, including one of the most significant eruptions in history around 1620 BC remains a decisive feature, although the last eruption occurred in 1950.

Seismologists closely monitor the situation. Gerasimos Papadopoulos, a leading Greek expert, warned that the current series of earthquakes may signal a larger seismic event.

“All the scenarios remain open,” he said, noting the growing value and shift of the epicenter of tremor. The local authorities emphasized the preventive nature of their actions, urging the public to be wary but not panic.
