“All I want is work” begs the unemployed doctor

When Nobukhley Mahhai graduated from the medical school of the University of Quasulu-Natal in 2021, she hoped not only to help her family but also to bring quality medical care to patients in his community.

But after nine years of study, including a two -year internship and the end of her compulsory community service in the Hospital in MPUMANAGA in December, it remains unemployed. Mahaya stated that she was applying for a hospital in Gauting and Natali quasulum, was not lucky.

“All I want is work. We know that there are patients who do not have doctors to care for them because there is a shortage of doctors, but here we are unemployed, ”she said. If the government can promote non -functional state -owned enterprises, it should also prioritize the health care system, Mahay said.

It joined 150 unemployed health graduates who passed through the city center in praetoria, demanding urgent action from the National Treasury. They also want infrastructure and health care facilities to improve staff shortages for unemployed doctors, dentists, pharmacists and nurses to get a job.

March headed the Trade Union of the South African Medical Association (Sumat) and supported the Democratic Medical Organization of South Africa (Denos), the South African Student Union and the South African Trade Union Congress (Cosatu).

Protesters departed from the union buildings to the Treasury offices. They claimed that more than 1,500 doctors are currently unemployed in the country.

They called for the dismissal of Finance Minister Enoch Hodogwan for not increasing the budget for healthcare professionals.

About 150 people passed through the center of Praetoria on Friday afternoon.

President of Tashilidzi Sadiki Samili said: “All these funding challenges are technogenic, and some of them-minister. We are talking to President Cyril Ramafos to remember him.”

Sinehlanhla Makhoba, who graduated from the Western Cape University in 2023, said many of her peers had student loans that they could not repay because they were still unemployed.

“There is less than the end of us every year, as only four universities offer dentistry.” The Richards Bay graduate said the situation forced them to the private sector.

The MPUMANAG TUCATION TULANAK TULABA Ramasela said: “There are more than 1500 unemployed doctors, more than 500 physiotherapists and 1000 pharmacists. And they are all ready to work.”

MNGHOZULU herds, Deputy Director General of Corporate Services in the National Treasury, promised to respond to the memorandum of markets in two weeks.

Percy Mahlati from the National Health Department briefly appealed to the crowd and stated that Minister Aaron Motsoledi appealed to the Treasury. “We fully understand and agree that there is a problem, and there is an even greater problem in the country’s unemployment,” he said.
