Rohan Dennis pleads guilty to the death of his wife

Former world time trial champion Rohan Dennis has formally pleaded guilty to charges related to the crash that killed his wife.

Another Australian Olympian, Melissa Hoskins, died aged 32 after being hit by a car outside the couple’s home in Adelaide on December 30, 2023.

Dennis, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault during a arraignment in the South Australian District Court in Adelaide on Friday.

Judge Ian Press remanded Dennis on bail until April 14, when a sentencing application will be heard and victim impact statements are expected to be read in court.

Charges of causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated driving without due care were dismissed after a hearing in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in December 2024.

Hoskins represented Australia in the track team pursuit at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics, and was part of the team that won the world championships in 2015.

The couple married in 2018 and have two children.

Dennis retired at the end of the 2023 season after a career in which he won two world time trial titles and won a bronze medal in the same event at the Tokyo Olympics.

He added silver in the team pursuit in London and wore the yellow jersey in the Tour de France after winning the opening time trial in 2015.
