Firefighters tackle a fire at a Limerick bar and restaurant

FIREFIGHTERS spent more than three hours at the scene of a blaze in Pallasgreen late last night.

Limerick Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire at Pallas Bar and Bistro in the village at 9.43pm. Two appliances from Cappamore and one from Tipperary attended the scene.

The fire services did not return to the base until after one o’clock in the morning.

There are no reports of casualties. The extent of damage to the premises is currently unknown.

Cllr Martin Ryan said he was “very disappointed to learn of this impact on a well-respected and popular local business”.

The Guard was also present at the incident.

A spokesman said gardaí were called to the fire in Pallasgreen, County Limerick, at approximately 10pm on Wednesday, October 30.

So far, no wrongdoing has been detected,” said a Guard spokesman.

It is not known how the fire started.

Pallas Bar and Bistro in the former Chaser’s pub in Pallasgreen opened just two days before the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. The staff and volunteers started the Meals on Wheels service, which proved to be an invaluable service for many residents of the city and the area.

After restrictions were eased, it became a popular eatery and watering hole on the N24.
