Nigeria’s governor has declared a 2-day public holiday and given the reason

Calabar, Cross River State – Cross River State Governor, Bessie Otu, has declared a 2-day weekend ahead of the local government elections in the state.

Chief Press Secretary of Otu (CPS) Nsa Gill said this on Thursday and Friday public holidays will allow residents to travel to various polling stations across the state.

As reported by Thecable, the NSA announced this in a statement published on Wednesday, October 30.

He said Governor Otu believes it is important that every citizen actively participates in the LG poll.

According to the statement, the governor urged the people of the state to use the public holiday and participate in the electoral process to make their voices heard.

Legit.ng reports that the 18 local government elections in the state are slated for Saturday, November 2.

“In order to ensure full participation of all Crossing rivers for the upcoming local elections slated for November 2, His Excellency the Governor, Senator Prince Bessie Otu has declared Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1, 2024 as public holidays across the state.”

Why did Governor Fubara insist on electing Rivers LG

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported Anyakweh’s lawyer Miracle Amadi reacted to the behaviour local government elections in Rivers of the state.

Amadi said Governor Siminalai Fubara insisted that the Rivers LG election should take place because of the Supreme Court ruling.

The political scientist said that with elected heads of local self-government bodies, federal allocations accrued to councils can be denied.
