Tucson family feels justice ‘finally served’ three years after son killed in crash

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A Tucson family who waited years for an arrest in the case of their loved one can breathe a little easier now that charges have been officially filed.

20-year-old Louis Torres died in an accident on September 27, 2021.

Louis was driving on Interstate 10 near Grant when he was struck and killed by a driver under the influence of marijuana, the Arizona State Police Department said.

But how This is reported by 13 News, it took years for the Pima County District Attorney’s Office to file charges. The case was transferred to another prosecutor, and the evidence had to be re-examined.

After a long struggle, the PCAO officially brought charges of negligent homicide against Jeremiah de Lauer.

He was in court Wednesday for a pretrial conference, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 4 for a pretrial conference.

The Torres family released a statement to 13 News saying, “The family would like to thank Mary Coleman and the Channel 13 team for supporting the cause of justice for my son Louis Torres. It was very difficult for the family, but we are seeking justice and know that many families are in the same situation. We want you to know that we have not given up on justice.”
