Montgomery High School student found with loaded gun in locker arrested, police say

Santa Rosa police arrested a 16-year-old Montgomery High School student Wednesday morning after discovering a loaded handgun in his school locker, authorities said in a news release.

Authorities say it’s the second time in as many weeks that a teenager has been arrested at a Santa Rosa high school for having a loaded gun on campus.

A 16-year-old Montgomery High School student was arrested Wednesday after a loaded handgun was found in his school locker, according to Santa Rosa police.

The teenager is being held in a juvenile facility on suspicion of having a loaded handgun on campus and being in possession of a minor.

Last week, on October 24, Santa Rosa Police said they another 16-year-old student was detainedthis time at Elsie Allen High School, who was found with a loaded gun and ammunition in a backpack.

There were no reports of injuries in either incident, and each weapon was recovered by the police.

In Wednesday’s incident at Montgomery High, police said they were called to the school shortly before 10:45 a.m. after an administrator said there was a report of a possible firearm on campus.

The report comes from an alert on the STOPit app, which its creator says allows students to anonymously report incidents of risky behavior, such as bullying or cyberbullying.

The report said three 16-year-old students may be in possession of firearms, officials said, adding that school officials immediately called police.

All three boys were found and initially detained by the police who arrived on the call. However, after questioning, only one of them was found to have a weapon, officials said.

According to officials, a gun and a loaded magazine were seized from the boy’s locker.

In a memo sent Wednesday to parents of Montgomery High School students, Principal April Santos said the initial STOPit app prompt also contained an image of a gun.

“Students who bring weapons to campus will be held accountable for their actions by the school and law enforcement will be contacted,” Santos said. “Law enforcement and school officials put consequences on students, holding them accountable for their actions.”

She added that in a second, unrelated incident on campus Wednesday, “two students with a history of conflict got into an altercation that was quickly quelled by staff. Both students are currently being investigated and given appropriate consequences.

“Despite the previous incidents, the campus was safe and all students involved were accounted for. The rest of the students went about their day as usual,” Santos said.
