Another protest breaks out near Umhlanga

Newswatch has seen footage of the scene just after the Umhlanga exit where objects appear to be being burnt on the side of the N2.

It is not clear what the protest is about.

“We would like to advise road users to avoid this route and use alternative routes. Only one lane is open so expect delays and congestion in the area,” says traffic inspectorate spokesperson Cindy Msimang.

Meanwhile, Newswatch has also received reports of a continuation of this morning’s taxi blockade in Durban’s central business district.

Dozens of taxis stopped running on routes near Durban station.

It is believed that the protest action is related to the frustration of the members of the taxi association of the Durban station.

They are upset that they did not receive a license to operate. Several routes were affected by the blockade, including long-distance journeys to Zululand and Johannesburg.
