No attempt to hide the criminal case of intimidation of the minister’s son, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: There is no effort to cover up the criminal case of intimidation against the minister’s son, says Fahmi Fadzil.

“There is nothing,” the communications minister, who is also the government spokesman, said curtly during his weekly press briefing after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday (15 January).

He was asked to respond to concerns about the cover-up of the case by certain parties.

Police on Tuesday (January 14) confirmed the authenticity of a marriage certificate that showed the son of a Cabinet minister had married a woman who was linked to him in a criminal intimidation case.

According to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain, the marriage certificate stated that he married in southern Thailand last September.

According to him, the document is legal according to the results of checks carried out by investigators.

“The minister’s son and wife were in love, but faced obstacles in their marriage.

“They hid their marriage so much that even their friends didn’t know about it.

“They didn’t want the problem to be inflated so as not to hurt the feelings of their family members,” Razarudin said.

The case made headlines after reports surfaced on social media that the son of a Cabinet minister had threatened a woman who accused him of causing her pregnancy.

Their exchange is said to have taken place during a conversation with the woman and several others at a house in Butterworth, Penang on Dec 24 last year.

A police report was filed on January 1, and authorities are said to be demanding a pregnancy report from the complainant.

Later it became known that the minister’s son is married to this woman.

On January 11, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that no one, including his son, was above the law.

Meanwhile, Fahmi also dismissed Muafakat Nasional president Tan Sri Annuar Musa’s recent Facebook post that talked about the new prime minister.

“Don’t choose yet. Let him dream,” he said.
