Old video Mike McCarthy admits he lied to Jerry Jones to get Dallas Cowboys job

Maybe this marriage was never meant to last because it started with a lie.

Jerry Jones introduced Mike McCarthy as head coach Dallas Cowboys January 8, 2020.

Fast forward five years later and McCarthy is now out of Dallas as Jones has decided to part ways with super bowl head coach of victory.

In retrospect, the Jones-McCarthy pairing may have been doomed after McCarthy admitted in his first press conference that he lied to the Cowboys owner to get the job.

Since McCarthy’s release, the video has resurfaced and is circulating the Internet.

“I have to admit, I told Jerry I watched every game of the 2019 season, but I wanted the job,” McCarthy playfully told the media, sitting between Jones and his son, Stephen Jones.

The younger Jones let out a clumsy and then unknown sinister laugh when McCarthy realized his mistake.

“I haven’t watched every game of the season, but you do what you gotta do, right?”

It was a joke at the time, but five years later it’s still nothing more than harmless internet fodder.

Unfortunately for McCarthy, the clip now looks a little worse than organic.

The former America’s Team head coach spent five seasons in Dallas, where he amassed a 49-35 record, including three straight 12-5 seasons.

His tenure was by no means a failure.

However, McCarthy was just 1-3 in the postseason and never really exuded confidence at the wheel.

After an injury-ravaged 7-10 season, Jones decided it was time to part ways with McCarthy.

Jones is currently looking for a new head coach.

The job is sure to attract some of the biggest names in sports, e.g Bill Belichick, Deion SandersJohn Gruden and others.

Jones and the Dallas office will leave no stone unturned.

As for McCarthy, it’s not all bad.

Jerry Jones drops big hint on new Cowboys coach as $16 billion owner makes major offseason decision

He is going to interview with Chicago Bears this week with New Orleans Saints I also want to talk to him.

He’ll be on his feet while teams try to find their next head coach.

Despite what McCarthy got in Dallas, he won a lot of games and is more than capable of running a franchise.

Remember the time he won the Super Bowl with Green Bay Packers in 2010?

Yes, he is very capable.

And a word of advice from the Jones family: If the guy you hire says he’s watched every snap of the 2024 Cowboys season, don’t believe him.

It probably won’t work anyway.
