SOLON, Ohio —

Domestic violence: Solon Road

On January 12 at 6:20 p.m., a 54-year-old Solon man came to the police station to report that his wife had recently been physically abusive to him.

He stated that while he was sleeping on January 11, he was awakened by her kicks and threats.

On January 10, he said, she strangled him with a charger cord.

The man wanted to sign the charges against the woman. Officers responded to the couple’s Flanders Drive home, where they arrested a 44-year-old Solon woman.

At 9:05 a.m. Jan. 7, Carter Lumber, 6199 SOM Center Road, reported receiving a check dated Nov. 7, 2024, in payment for construction materials from a 47-year-old Lakewood man.

After the check was returned to the company as “insufficient funds,” management attempted to contact the man to “reimburse” the check.

The effort was unsuccessful. The investigating police officer managed to establish contact with the man.

He stated that he would pay in full by the end of the week. Carter Lumber management will press charges if he doesn’t comply. If the man does not comply, he faces a fifth-degree felony.

Theft: Kruse Drive

At 12:15 a.m. Jan. 7, a manager at Tractor Supply, 6025 Kruse Drive, reported that a man had entered the store earlier that morning and purchased two gift cards for approximately $200 each and some items of clothing. Later it turned out that the man used a stolen credit card.

The clerk processed the payment because she didn’t recognize the signs of possible fraud as the cash register asked her to manually enter the last four digits of the credit card. Officers later checked the financial institution and learned that the credit card account had been compromised.

The store was able to cancel the gift cards without loss, but lost $35 worth of merchandise.

Police investigated and found that the Tractor Supply location in Broadway Heights was also dealing with an attempted theft using credit card fraud, but they did not process the transaction.

The officer also learned that the suspect vehicle, a rented gray Toyota sedan with New York registration, may have been involved in both incidents.

The described Toyota was accidentally stopped in Avon for a traffic violation.

The driver had a suspended license and was found to have stolen credit cards. The driver was detained and criminally charged. Solon detectives will investigate whether these cases are connected.

Vehicle seized: Park East Drive

At 2:10 a.m. on Jan. 7, an officer on patrol observed a dark-colored Mercedes sedan parked in the parking lot of Park East Apartments, located in the 34000 block of Park East Drive.

The officer continued to investigate and saw that the required Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) had been removed or obscured.

The law enforcement officers decided to tow the car for further investigation of the alleged theft of the car. An investigation is underway.

The officer stopped the car for improper license plates and learned that the driver was wanted by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado on an outstanding warrant for carjacking.

Police arrested the driver, a 62-year-old Solon man, and took him to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office Jail. His car was towed away.

At 12:35 a.m. on Jan. 12, an officer conducted a registration check on a red GMC pickup and learned that the license plate was registered to a Honda.

He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, a 32-year-old Lakewood man who had a warrant out for his arrest by Parma police.

The officer forced the man out of the car along with a 36-year-old female passenger from North Olmsted. The man consented to a search of the vehicle, and the officer found a small baggie containing suspected drugs in the pocket of a pair of jeans stored in the vehicle.

The suspect told the officer the drug was ketamine, a controlled substance. Item removed.

The police arrested a man for drug possession. The passenger was released without a report.

The car was towed away.

Crime weapon: Aurora Road

At 12:50 a.m. on Jan. 13, a patrol officer saw a gray Mitsubishi Mirage traveling westbound on Aurora Road, off SOM Center Road.

The car had an expired license plate and was suspected of having a window tint violation.

The driver told officers he knew he shouldn’t have been driving because his license was suspended.

The driver and passenger, a 24-year-old Maple Heights man, were asked to exit the vehicle so it could be towed. The officer asked the driver if there was a weapon in the car and was told there was none. However, the officer found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the glove compartment.
