The thieves escaped with two more CCTV batteries in Chandigarh

In his complaint, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd Assistant Manager Varun Chugh alleged that six batteries and two UPS systems were stolen by unidentified persons from the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) installed between Sectors 28 and 29 on Purv Marg on January 10.

Two more cases of theft of UPS batteries came to light on Tuesday following a complaint by representatives of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd (CSCL). According to the police, a total of five such cases were recorded in the last five days.

In his complaint, CSCL Assistant Manager Varun Chugh alleged that six batteries and two UPS systems were stolen by unidentified persons from the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) installed between Sectors 28 and 29 on Purv Marg on January 10. Similarly, the complaint states, on December 27, a battery and a UPS system were also stolen from a traffic system installed between Sectors 53 and 54. Two separate cases under Sec. 303(2) (theft) of the BNS registered in Sector 26 and Sector 36 of the Police respectively.

ITMS records violations of traffic rules with the help of video surveillance cameras at various junctions of the city for issuing electronic applications.

Earlier on Saturday, two cases were reported following the theft of a UPS and three batteries from an observation post between sectors 33 and 45 on January 7. A UPS and its batteries were stolen from the same location in a similar manner on December 29. Another case was registered on January 9 after another uninterruptible power supply and three batteries were stolen from an observation post between Sectors 9 and 10. The date of this theft, however, was not mentioned in the case registered at Sector 3 police station.

Police have yet to make any arrests in the case and are working on a theory of whether the cases are related.
