Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has clarified that he did not ask Ratu Speaker William Katonivere to reject his name as the candidate recommended by the coalition government.

Instead, he claims that he merely highlighted a specific fact related to the complaint against Ratu William that could potentially lead to a criminal investigation.

Rabuka emphasizes that the final decision to accept or reject the recommendation rests solely with the president, and he has no influence over it.

He notes that he is concerned about the integrity of Ratu Williame in this matter.

“I simply pointed out to him the facts proven to me, which may be the subject of criminal proceedings. And it would be inconvenient for the Supreme Leader to submit to this while holding a high position in the country.”

The Prime Minister further clarifies that it is not his responsibility to refer the complaint to law enforcement agencies such as the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption or the police.

He declares that such actions fall under the competence of the Prosecutor General, leaving this issue solely at his discretion.
