The Bexar County Medical Examiner has identified the man shot and killed on the South Side

SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the shot man Sunday near a South Side business.

The office said Ricardo Ortiz, 30, died of multiple gunshot wounds. His death was classified as a murder.

SAPD officers were dispatched to an after-hours incident just before 3 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Mission Road.

When police and other first responders arrived, they said they found Ortiz inside the vehicle with at least one apparent gunshot wound.

A SAPD sergeant at the scene told KSAT two people were hanging out at the address where Ortiz was causing a disturbance in the parking lot.

According to SAPD’s initial investigation, Ortiz threatened to shoot people at the scene and tried to run over others in their car.

The shooter, who told police he pulled a gun and shot Ortiz in self-defense, remained at the scene when officers arrived.

SAP apprehended the shooter, but no charges have been filed against the shooter at this time.

Police also said the shooter may be charged as the investigation continues.
